The pontiff stressed that the Lord does not hear the prayers of those whose hands are filled with blood and called for weapons to be laid down.

Pope Leo XIV celebrated Palm Sunday services in St. Peter’s Square at the Vatican, Vatican News reports.

In his homily, the pontiff recalled that the Savior did not use weapons and commanded His disciple to put away the sword after he had cut off the ear of the high priest’s servant, saying, “All who take the sword will perish by the sword.” The pontiff especially emphasized that Christ came to bring life and light despite the darkness surrounding the world.

Pope Leo XIV addressed the modern world with the words of the Prophet Isaiah: “When you stretch out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.” According to the pontiff, Christ rejects war and does not hear the prayers of those who wage it. At the end of the service, the primate prayed for an end to injustice among nations and for the swift conclusion of conflicts.

As the UOJ previously reported, the pope banned clergy from writing sermons with the use of AI.
