In USA, Methodist Church supports law on gender change in children
The United Methodist Church, USA, has supported legislation to lift restrictions on hormone therapy and surgeries for transgender minors.
In March 2026, representatives of the United Methodist Church in the USA supported a federal bill aimed at expanding access to gender reassignment surgeries for minors, reports The Christian Post.
This concerns the so-called "Transgender Bill of Rights," which proposes to eliminate restrictions on medical procedures, including hormone therapy and surgical interventions for adolescents who identify as transgender. The law is also aimed at protecting their rights in healthcare, housing, and social support.
Bishop Julius C. Trimble, the General Secretary of the General Board of Church and Society (GBCS), stated that the Church should support transgender people and oppose legislative restrictions in this area. According to him, many adolescents face violence, bullying, and social isolation.
At the same time, the Church's position has drawn criticism from conservative Christian organizations. They note that such statements ignore traditional Christian teaching about human nature and do not consider the possible long-term consequences of medical interventions for children.
The discussion around gender reassignment surgeries among minors continues in the USA and other countries, where increasing attention is being paid to the risks of hormone therapy and surgical procedures, as well as questions of their acceptability from medical and ethical standpoints.
