Danylo Hetmantsev, head of the parliamentary finance committee, said the current members of parliament were chosen by God and entrusted with enormous responsibility.

Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada has heard claims that the current convocation of parliament was “chosen by God.” Danylo Hetmantsev, chairman of the finance committee, urged lawmakers to stop internal feuding and political point-scoring, warning that Ukraine is on the brink of economic catastrophe.

“We did not choose this time – the Lord chose us and placed upon us an enormous responsibility, one we must bear before the future, before our children, and before ourselves,” the politician said.

According to Hetmantsev, now is not the time for “Instagram photos,” chasing popular gimmicks such as cashback programs, or indiscriminate criticism of the authorities. The MP stressed that the country could repeat the fate of the Ukrainian People’s Republic in 1918 and simply disappear if politicians fail to move to systematic, serious work.

He cited specific examples of failures in state governance: in 2025, Ukraine failed to meet 14 indicators under the Ukraine Facility program, as a result of which the budget did not receive €3.9 billion. In the first quarter of this year, all five planned benchmarks have already been missed, and €300 million in expected assistance will be lost entirely within days. Also at risk are World Bank tranches worth $3.3 billion, as well as a major EU reparations loan totaling €90 billion.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that lawmakers passed the law banning the UOC under pressure and threats from Yermak.
