Pete Hegseth stated that American military personnel are "no longer defenders" but warriors "trained to destroy the enemy."

On March 2, 2026, after the beginning of military actions by the USA and Israel against Iran, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth addressed servicemen with a speech in which he called what was happening a "generational turning point."

"We are not defenders anymore. We are warriors, trained to kill the enemy and break their will," Hegseth declared. The Secretary called on the military not to pay attention to "noise" and "fake news," assuring that President Trump "is steady at the weel." Hegseth concluded his address with words about divine protection: "May Almighty God watch over you and and his providential arms of protection extend over you."

"Godspeed warriors and keep going," the Secretary concluded.
