In Nikopol, a shell damaged the Cathedral of the Transfiguration and the parish library.

On the night of February 21–22, 2026, in Nikopol (Dnipropetrovsk Region), a shell struck the grounds of the Cathedral of the Transfiguration. This was reported by Nikopol News.

As a result of the impact, a summer gazebo was completely destroyed. The library building sustained significant damage: window units were blown out, walls were damaged, and interior rooms were affected. In the cathedral itself, windows were also blown out and the roof was partially damaged.

There were no fatalities. One woman suffered a head injury after being struck by shards of glass. After receiving medical assistance, she continues treatment at home.

Despite the damage, on Forgiveness Sunday two Divine Liturgies were served in the church, as well as an evening service with the Rite of Forgiveness. The cathedral’s rector, Archpriest Mykola Marushchak, appealed to the faithful to support the community with prayer and to help with the restoration of the church.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that in Kherson, a UOC church dedicated to the Nativity of the Theotokos was damaged by shelling.
