The Polish defense ministry scrapped a gender-focused course arguing that the military should concentrate on combat training rather than ideological programs.

Poland’s Ministry of Defense has decided against introducing an additional gender-themed course for servicemen following criticism from the opposition. This was reported by the European Conservative outlet.

The planned sessions were to focus on “gender perspectives in military operations.” The program was expected to cover the role of women in the army, the prevention of discrimination and harassment, equal access to service, and the consideration of gender factors in operational planning and in work with civilian populations.

The initiative was proposed by the Council for Women’s Military Service and approved by the defense ministry’s human resources department. However, the decision was revisited following a backlash from conservative politicians and a public debate.

Poland’s defense minister canceled the launch of the course. Representatives of the Law and Justice party criticized the initiative, arguing that the army should focus on combat training, not ideological programs. MP Andrzej Śliwka called the proposed trainings inappropriate under the current circumstances.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Polish Church discussed prospects for Orthodox religious classes in schools.
