EU lawmakers reject “biological women only” pregnancy amendment
In the European Parliament, an initiative to legalize the concept of a “biological woman” did not receive the required majority of votes and was rejected.
On February 15, 2026, the European Parliament rejected an amendment containing the wording that “only biological women can become pregnant.” The results of the vote were reported on the social network X by Polish Member of the European Parliament Tomasz Froelich.
According to the published figures, 200 MEPs supported the initiative, 233 voted against it, and another 107 abstained. As a result, the amendment did not obtain the necessary majority and was rejected.
The author of the proposal, Polish MEP Tomasz Froelich, criticized the decision. Commenting on the outcome of the vote, he said that what is happening in Parliament raises serious questions and reflects deep disagreements on issues of gender policy.
The amendment was considered as part of discussions on a document related to rights and the gender agenda. The debate over the wording demonstrated the continuing disputes in the European Parliament on questions of how sex is defined and on biological differences.
