Ombudsman: Claims about religious persecutions in Ukraine are outright lie
Lubinets sees no religious persecution in Ukraine. He says it exists only in Russia.
Ukraine’s Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets stated that there are no religious persecutions in Ukraine. Commenting on his Telegram channel on a statement by the Christian Interconfessional Consultative Committee, which spoke of persecution of the UOC, Lubinets called such claims false.
“I emphasize that in Ukraine, at both the legislative and practical levels, freedom of conscience and religion is ensured. Claims by Russian propaganda about alleged religious persecution in Ukraine are an outright lie,” the ombudsman said.
He also criticized Russia for religious oppression of what he called “nationally oriented churches” – the OCU, the UGCC, and the RCC.
Lubinets promised to continue “monitoring the situation.”
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the UN accused Ukraine of persecuting UOC clergy, communities, and journalists.
