On Theophany Feast, His Beatitude celebrates Liturgy at Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra
A festive service in honor of the Baptism of the Lord was held at the Lavra with the participation of bishops and clergy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
On January 19, 2026, the feast of Theophany and the Baptism of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The service took place at the Holy Dormition Lavra, the UOC Information and Education Department reports.
The solemn service was held in the church dedicated to Venerable Agapit of the Caves. Many faithful took part, gathering at the Lavra on the day of one of the Church’s major Great Feasts.
Concelebrating with the Primate were Metropolitan Anthony of Boryspil and Brovary, Chancellor of the UOC; Metropolitan Filaret of Lviv and Halych; Archbishop Sylvester of Bilohorod; Archbishop Lavr of Irpin; Archbishop Mark of Borodianka; as well as the monastery clergy and invited clerics.
After the reading of the festal Gospel, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy addressed the faithful with a homily. During the Liturgy, special prayers were offered for peace on Ukrainian soil, deliverance from the enemy, consolation for those who have lost their homes, and God’s blessing upon all who help those in need.
At the conclusion of the service, the Primate led the rite of the Great Blessing of Water. After the prayers, the archpastor sprinkled the faithful with holy water and congratulated everyone on the feast of Theophany.
