In Geneva, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child is considering a draft that proposes to enshrine for minors the right to abortion and gender transition without parental consent.

From January 12 to 30, the United Nations is holding a session of the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child in Geneva, where a draft document titled “General Comment No. 27” has been presented. The document proposes to treat minors’ access to abortion and the recognition of “gender identity” without parental consent as elements of protecting children’s rights. This was reported by LifeSiteNews.

The draft calls on states to introduce a “gender-transformative approach” and to ensure adolescents have “free and equal access to reproductive health medical services.” The authors argue that age limits and parental consent requirements for such procedures should be abolished.

“The draft treats abortion for minors as a child’s right that must be provided quickly, and removes parents from the decision entirely,” the draft says.

Critics of the draft say these provisions undermine parental rights and threaten the psychological and physical well-being of children.

According to public organizations, adoption of the document could create an international precedent that would put pressure on national education and healthcare systems. The petition, signed by thousands, warns, “If adopted, this text won’t stay on paper. It will become a new global standard and be cited in courtrooms, enforced in schools and hospitals, and used to pressure parents who refuse to comply.”

Representatives of family advocacy movements, including prominent public activist Chris Elston, are urging the UN to abandon terminology that legitimizes interference in family upbringing. They also note that in countries where early “gender therapy” is permitted, an increase in medical complications among minors has been recorded.

As the UOJ reported, the European Parliament had approved the creation of an EU fund to finance abortions.
