In Amman, King of Jordan discusses problems of Christians with Pat Theophilos
On the eve of the Christmas holidays, Jordan’s capital hosted a meeting between King Abdullah II and representatives of Christian denominations and Muslim religious leaders.
On December 17, 2025, a meeting took place in Amman between King Abdullah II of Jordan and representatives of Christian denominations and Muslim religious leaders from Jerusalem and Jordan. This was reported by Orthodoxia News Agency. The monarch congratulated the Christians of Jordan and Palestine on the upcoming holidays. Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad – the King’s adviser on religious and cultural affairs – was also present at the event.
The Orthodox Church at the meeting was represented by Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem. The Primate of the Jerusalem Church emphasized that the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan acts as “an active force for good and a fundamental pillar of balance in times of uncertainty and challenges.” He pointed out that there is a growing threat to the Christian presence in the region. The Patriarch also noted that threats to Muslim holy sites pose a danger to Christian shrines as well.
Representatives of other religious communities, in their remarks, stressed that the Kingdom of Jordan is a reliable pillar in preserving the status quo of the Holy Land and a guarantor of freedom of religion.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the King of Jordan had called for the protection of Christians in the Middle East.
