ROCOR in US: We must inform “mighty of this world” about persecution of UOC
ROCOR hopes that political leaders in Washington will begin to address the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Archpriest Serafim Gan, Chancellor of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR), stated that the “mighty of this world” must learn about the persecution of the UOC.
According to him, ROCOR has been speaking for years about the persecutions faced by the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, but only recently has the clergy felt heard for the first time – a development that inspires hope that political figures in Washington will take up this issue.
He noted that “as Orthodox Christians, we are obliged to inform the ‘mighty of this world’ and the American public about the persecutions against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, headed by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine.”
The priest stressed that the UOC is “the only lawful heir of the thousand-year-old Kyivan Church on the territory of Ukraine, while the schismatic structure known as the ‘Orthodox Church of Ukraine’ (OCU) is a caricature to which the believing people are in no way inclined and in which they have absolutely no trust.”
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the ROCOR Primate commented on the meetings in Washington dedicated to defending the UOC.
