New information has emerged regarding the emergency hospitalization of Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv.

On November 29, 2025, details were revealed about the health of Metropolitan Theodosiy of Cherkasy and Kaniv and the possible causes of his critical condition. According to UOJ sources, there are grounds to assert that the hierarch was poisoned.

The Cherkasy Eparchy reported that a little over a month ago, the bishop began experiencing signs of unusual illness. It was neither a manifestation of hypertension nor of cardiac conditions, which the hierarch has suffered from for many years. During this period, the Metropolitan frequently developed a fever, and his blood pressure would spike sharply – from very high readings to critically low ones. His condition remained consistently severe, forcing him to cancel or postpone a number of divine services and events.

This week the Metropolitan’s condition deteriorated sharply, and an expanded panel of tests showed a ten- to fifteen-fold increase in several indicators compared to the norm. At the insistence of his attending physician, he was immediately hospitalized.

According to doctors, the diagnostic and treatment process will include a broad investigation for the presence of toxic substances in the bishop’s body.

UOJ sources report that Metropolitan Theodosiy was poisoned, presumably with heavy metals. “Severe intoxication continues, the condition is still relatively stable, but the Metropolitan remains in the hospital,” the publication’s interlocutors noted. According to the same sources, toxicology tests may take about a month.

The eparchy expressed gratitude to the faithful for their support and asked that prayers for the health of Metropolitan Theodosiy not cease.

As the UOJ reported, on November 28 the press service of the Cherkasy Eparchy announced that Metropolitan Theodosiy had been urgently hospitalized in critical condition.
