UOC continues legal battle for Dormition Cathedral in Volodymyr
The UOC community was expelled from the cathedral by the authorities, but the faithful continue to litigate for the right to use the shrine.
In Volodymyr, the religious community of the UOC filed a lawsuit demanding that the registration of ownership of the Dormition Cathedral be canceled by the Volyn Regional Military Administration and their right for the temple be restored.
“The UOC parish has filed a lawsuit demanding the cancellation of the property ownership registration under the Volyn Regional Military Administration and the recognition of its right of use,” said Karina Marinevych, head of the Information and Internal Policy Department of the Volyn RMA.
Representatives of the Volodymyr-Volyn Eparchy of the UOC claim that they did not have time to take some items, particularly icons, icon cases, and crosses. These items are currently with the executive service and the balance holder.
"It is too early to make clear statements. It is necessary to determine what exactly belongs to the religious community and what is an object of cultural heritage. For this, a legal strategy and methodology for the return of property are currently being developed," explained the head of the Reserve "Ancient Volodymyr" Volodymyr Pikaliuk. How long the process of establishing ownership will last is still unknown.
Currently, the religious community of the UOC is conducting services in the Chapel of All Saints of the Volyn land in Volodymyr. The cathedral itself is sealed and under guard.
As reported, on October 10, 2025, the authorities took away the buildings of the Dormition Cathedral and the eparchial administration from the UOC. Later, MP Ihor Huz announced that the OCU would serve in the church.
