Following the installation of a new section of its tower, the height of the Sagrada Família has reached 162.91 meters, surpassing Germany’s Ulm Cathedral.

On October 31, 2025, Barcelona’s Basilica of the Sagrada Família (Church of the Holy Family) officially became the tallest church in the world, according to Associated Press.

Representatives of the basilica noted that the installation of the new part of the tower marks a major milestone in the construction process, which began back in 1882. At the time of architect Antoni Gaudí’s death, only one tower had been completed, but in recent decades the work has accelerated thanks to growing numbers of visitors.

Revenue from ticket sales continues to fund the project’s completion. In 2024, the Sagrada Família was visited by nearly 5 million people. Once the final elements of the central “Tower of Jesus Christ” are installed, the basilica will reach a height of 172 meters – making it not only the tallest, but also one of the most symbolically significant structures in the modern Christian world.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Pope Leo had called for a deepening of Jewish–Christian dialogue.
