The upcoming joint service of Patriarchs Bartholomew and Daniel will be the culmination of many years of work on the creation of the main Orthodox church in Romania.

In early October 2025, it became known that Patriarch Bartholomew of the  Constantinople Patriarchate and Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church will jointly celebrate a solemn Divine Liturgy at the consecration of the National Cathedral of Salvation of the Nation in Bucharest on October 26. This was reported by the TV channel TVR Info (Romanian Television).

The joint service will be a historic event for the Romanian Orthodox Church. The ceremony is expected to be attended by numerous hierarchs, clergy, and thousands of believers who will gather at the cathedral.

According to the Patriarchate, the preparation for the consecration of the church has reached its final stage: the interior finishing works and paintings in the altar area have been completed. The entrance space of the church is adorned with icons of recently canonized Romanian saints.

The construction of the National Cathedral, an idea that originated back in the 19th century, began in 2007. The altar was consecrated in 2018, and the upcoming joint service of the two Patriarchs will be the culmination of many years of work to create the main Orthodox church of Romania.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Archbishop of Constantinople in the USA urged the Romanian Patriarch to recognize the OCU.
