Ukrainian Deputy Minister of Culture appointed – an open homosexual

Verbytsky will oversee cultural heritage protection, museums, and the return of cultural assets.
On September 25, 2025, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed a new Deputy Minister of Culture. The post went to Ivan Verbytsky. The corresponding order was signed by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.
According to Acting Minister of Culture Tatiana Berezhna, Verbytsky will be responsible for museum-related affairs and the protection of cultural heritage.
“He will be in charge of forming and implementing state policy in the fields of cultural heritage protection, museum affairs, export, import, and restitution of cultural assets. Key tasks and the first steps in these areas are already defined,” Berezhna stated.
At the same time, Ivan Verbytsky is known as an LGBT activist who for many years has taken part in homosexual demonstrations. In 2019, he publicly came out and since then has actively promoted his views.
It is worth noting that the concepts of “cultural heritage and museum affairs” also include church buildings, iconostases, icons, liturgical objects, and other ecclesiastical items.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that for the first time in Ukraine an appellate court recognized the marriage of two men as legal.
