Lutsk: Call to remove UOC from Council of Churches inactive for 4 years

The mayor of Lutsk did not react to the demand, instead urging deputies to move on to forming the session’s agenda.
On September 24, 2025, during a session of the Lutsk City Council, representative of the civic movement SVIDOMI Mykhailo Nakhod demanded the exclusion of the representative of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from the local Council of Churches. The news was reported by the outlet Konkurent.
Nakhod called for the removal of the head of the Volyn eparchy of the UOC from the consultative and advisory body under the City Council, which, according to his own statement, has not convened since 2021.
The deputy justified his initiative by citing the “ties of this religious organization with Russia and the need to protect the constitutional order of Ukraine.” According to the politician, this measure would also contribute to “public unity and interconfessional dialogue” within the community.
The mayor of Lutsk offered no comment on the demand, instead calling on deputies to proceed with forming the agenda.
As previously reported by the UOJ, in Volyn the faithful honored the wonderworking Zymne Icon of the Mother of God.
