Metropolitan Longin says his orphanage is facing closure
The bishop reported that the minister visited the monastery and said to close the orphanage.
On September 23, 2025, after a session of the Hertsa District Court, Metropolitan Longin of Bancheny stated that the state authorities intend to close the orphanage at the monastery, where more than 300 children, including orphans, disabled children, and refugee children, are being raised.
"We have 122 children with disabilities, 50 children with epilepsy, many are bedridden. The minister came and said: “Liquidation!” Do you want to throw these children out on the street?" said the bishop.
According to the metropolitan, the monastery continues to care for orphans and children affected by the war, despite legal proceedings and inspections. "I have no time to run around the courts – I need to find food, clothes, firewood for the winter. I have almost 300 children – should I leave them hungry and go to court myself, where I have been summoned four times in a row?" he noted.
The bishop urged the authorities to pay attention to the needs of the children and prevent the closure of the institution: "Better go, feed the children, buy medicine for the sick."
As reported by the UOJ, Bishop Longin also said that he cannot call those who grab God by the throat patriots.
