Republican Party representative Liza Mazur emphasized that "children are not capable of fully understanding procedures that change their bodies for life".

On July 30, 2025, the state of New Hampshire became the first state in New England, USA, where all surgical and chemical procedures aimed at changing the gender of minors are completely banned by law. This was reported by NH Journal.

According to the new laws, any breast removal surgeries for girls and breast implantation for boys; hormone therapy aimed at gender change; and the use of puberty blockers are now prohibited in New Hampshire.

The bills were signed by Governor Kelly Ayotte, emphasizing that such "medical interventions can irreversibly affect the lives of young people." According to her, the measures taken are the result of a "balanced, bipartisan effort to protect children."

The initiator of the laws was Republican Representative Lisa Mazur. She emphasized, "These commonsense safeguards, strongly supported by Granite State voters, ensure children aren’t subjected to life-altering medical interventions they can’t fully understand or consent to.” According to her, a July poll by NH Journal and Praecones Analytica showed that 69% of state residents support the ban, while only 16% oppose it.

The laws were passed with almost unanimous support from the Republican Party. Of all the Democrats, only two — Rep. Jonah Wheeler from Peterborough and Rep. Dale Girard from Claremont — voted for both bills.

Opponents of the law argue that the state is interfering in family matters and violating the rights of transgender youth. Representatives of the Democratic Party stated that decisions about medical interventions should be made within the family in consultation with a doctor.

It is noted that many medical institutions have already suspended such procedures following President Donald Trump's January 2025 order, which banned federal support for sex change in minors.

Earlier, in May, the US Department of Health published a 400-page report indicating serious risks of "gender change" in children — including infertility, mental disorders, heart and bone problems, as well as a high level of regret and complications. The document also included findings from the independent Cass Review, commissioned by the UK's National Health Service.

The new restrictions will take effect in January 2026. Minors already in the process of "transition" will be able to continue their treatment.

Previously, the UOJ reported that in the USA, a court allowed parents to withdraw children from LGBT classes.
