Future UOC iconographers defend their diplomas in Kamianets-Podilskyi
The defense took place in a prayerful and fraternal atmosphere that united students, teachers, and Metropolitan Feodor.
On 27 June 2025, the Kamianets-Podilskyi Iconography Seminary of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke held the formal defense of diploma projects by its 2024–2025 graduating class, according to the seminary’s official website.
The day began with a thanksgiving service in the cathedral. The examination committee was chaired by Metropolitan Feodor of Kamianets-Podilskyi and Horodok. Committee members included the seminary rector, Archpriest Vadym Hadzhaman, faculty members, vice-rectors, and department heads.
This year’s graduates presented icons of saints and Gospel scenes painted according to the canons of Orthodox tradition for churches and monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Among the themes were an image of St. Ambrose, the icon of the Mother of God “Panagia Panachranta,” icons of holy apostles, hieromartyrs, as well as images of Venerable Anthony, Theodosius of the Caves, and other saints.
The projects were accompanied by faculty reviews and guidance. The committee emphasized that iconography is not merely a craft but a form of service and prayer requiring spiritual depth.
All students were awarded the qualification of “iconographer and iconography teacher” upon successful defense. All diploma projects received grades of “excellent” or “good.”
The rector stressed that the defense is not simply an exam but an expression of faith and testimony to each graduate’s personal journey. Metropolitan Feodor reminded everyone that iconography is a form of service to the Church, revealing the depth of the Gospel to God’s people.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Zelensky met with the Pope and presented him with a “military” icon of the Mother of God.
