Germany urged to introduce gender ideology in kindergartens

Germany’s Social Democrats have accused Berlin’s preschool education program of ignoring the LGBT agenda.
On June 10, 2025, Alexander Freier-Winterwerb, the Social Democratic Party of Germany’s (SPD) spokesperson on children's rights, gave an interview to Tagesspiegel, in which he criticized the new draft of Berlin’s preschool education curriculum.
According to the politician, the document neglects key themes such as “queer lifestyles,” “gender diversity,” and “anti-discrimination education,” calling it “a step backward” compared to the 2014 version.
Freier-Winterwerb demanded that LGBT topics be actively integrated into the education of toddlers and preschool-aged children.
He argued that the current version of the curriculum ignores the actual needs of society and the rights of LGBT individuals. His position was supported by the Lesbian and Gay Association of Germany (LSVD), which warned that the “invisibility” of LGBT topics in education could negatively affect children's sense of safety.
It is worth noting that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz recently appointed Sophie Koch as the country’s new Commissioner for Queer Affairs. Koch is known for her strong advocacy for LGBT rights and criticism of traditional values. Many observers believe that with her appointment, the government is moving further away from supporting traditional family values.
A final decision on the preschool education draft has not yet been made.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the OCU had suggested relocating the gay pride parade from Kyiv to the Donbas.
