Pope Leo XIV emphasized the need to stop the war, support dialogue, and pray for peace in Ukraine.

On May 28, 2025, at the end of the General Audience, Pope Leo XIV addressed 40,000 pilgrims gathered in St. Peter's Square with another call for peace. This was reported by Vatican News.

Pope Leo expressed support for Ukraine, which suffered from new shelling. The Roman pontiff appealed to those gathered: "In these days, my thoughts turn to the Ukrainian people, who have suffered from new serious attacks on civilians and infrastructure."

The Pope emphasized the importance of seeking paths to mutual understanding. The Pontiff noted that every initiative leading to dialogue and peace should be supported.

He invited everyone “to join in prayer for peace in Ukraine and wherever people are suffering due to war.".

Addressing the situation in Gaza, the Pontiff also called for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and adherence to humanitarian law.

"I repeat my call: cease fire, release all hostages, ensure full compliance with humanitarian law," he emphasized.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Pope Leo allowed the OCU to access the relics of St. Nicholas.
