The Pontiff expressed his willingness to host negotiating delegations during a conversation with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced that the Vatican is ready to host peace talks between Ukraine and Russia. Meloni made the statement following a phone conversation with Pope Leo.

According to a release on the Italian government’s official website, Meloni had earlier held discussions with Donald Trump and European leaders, during which she was asked to assess the Holy See’s willingness to host negotiations. “After receiving confirmation from His Holiness of the Vatican’s readiness to host upcoming talks between the two parties, the Prime Minister expressed her deep gratitude for Pope Leo XIV’s openness and his tireless efforts in pursuit of peace,” the statement reads.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Trump had suggested the talks between Ukraine and Russia should take place at the Vatican.
