Two сhurches of UOC Sumy Eparchy damaged by Russian shelling

The Dormition Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Krasnopillia and the Church of St. John the Theologian in Velyka Chernetchyna, a residential suburb of Sumy, suffered serious damage from recent Russian missile and artillery strikes in the Sumy region. This was reported by the press service of the Sumy Eparchy.

As a result of the shelling, windows along with their frames and several doors were blown out in the Dormition Church; parts of the walls and ceiling collapsed. The walls were scarred in many places by shrapnel, and the interior frescoes were significantly damaged.

The rector’s house located next to the church was also damaged.

In the Church of St. John the Theologian, the explosion shattered windows and seriously damaged the wooden ceilings; cracks appeared in the walls. The building was still undergoing final finishing work but had already become a place of prayer for local residents. Now, it has been disfigured by the blast wave and debris.

The Sumy Eparchy noted that this strike by the Russian army was especially tragic, as three civilians were killed, including a 6-year-old child.

As previously reported by the UOJ, shelling in Myropillia destroyed the St. Nicholas Hierarchal Residence of the UOC.
