Radonitsa celebrated in the Orthodox Church
On Radonitsa, believers attend church services and then visit the graves of their relatives and friends.
On the Tuesday of the second week after Pascha – which in 2025 falls on April 29 – Orthodox Christians observe Radonitsa, a special day of remembrance for the departed.
On this day, memorial services are held in all churches, and the faithful visit the graves of their loved ones to pray for the repose of their souls.
The word Radonitsa is connected with the notion of joy, as believers on this day share with the departed the joy of Christ’s Resurrection. This commemoration is marked by bright emotions and hope.
On this day, the faithful are encouraged first and foremost to attend the church service, where special prayers for the dead are offered, and only afterward to visit cemeteries.
It is worth remembering that, according to Church tradition, the proper expression of love for the departed is prayer on their behalf and good deeds done in their memory.
Earlier, it was reported that on memorial days, police may conduct checks near cemeteries.
