Myanmar military kills Baptist pastor
The military detained the Christians in May and later killed them on suspicion of supporting armed resistance.
Members of Myanmar’s military junta carried out the extrajudicial killing of Baptist pastor William and church member Nam Ceu, International Christian Concern (ICC) reports.
Before the killings, the military arrested the believers in May and held the two men in custody. Representatives of the Burma Research Institute said the soldiers killed the Christians because they were suspected of supporting the Chinland Hahka Defense Force, a local group engaged in armed resistance against the ruling regime.
Pastor William had led the Baptist congregation in the village of Chunchung for more than 25 years. His death left behind a wife and five children.
Since the 2021 military coup, soldiers have repeatedly carried out brutal raids on the village. In October of that year, the military completely destroyed and looted the local Baptist church building.
As the UOJ reported, Ukrainian Baptists published a list of fellow believers who had been forcibly mobilized.
