MP: OCU, Catholics and Protestants assure the West that there are no persecutions here

The MP admitted that the authorities adopted the law against the UOC under Western pressure.

People's Deputy Nikita Poturaev admitted that representatives of the OCU, Catholics and Protestants helped the authorities neutralize Western pressure during the preparation of the law against the UOC. This was reported by Espreso.

Poturaev admitted that the authorities prepared and adopted the law under conditions of international pressure. "The state is doing its work in accordance with the law, which we adopted with great difficulty – and under serious international pressure. We had to convince European partners, secure appropriate wording in PACE and European Parliament resolutions, and work with American colleagues."

The MP explained that to overcome this resistance, officials engaged religious organizations that unanimously refuted reports of persecution before their European and American counterparts. "The consolidated position of all denominations in Ukraine also played its role – Protestants, Catholics, and the OCU, who with one voice refuted Moscow's thesis about the alleged 'restriction of freedom of conscience' in Ukraine."

The People's Deputy expressed hope for the assistance of Western intelligence services in the fight against the Church. "We showed our Western colleagues the true face and role of the Moscow Patriarchate – let their intelligence services deal with it from here."

As the SPJ reported, AUCRO member Vitaliy Kryvytsky denied accusations of religious persecution in Ukraine.
