Metropolitan Nikodim Expressed Condolences to Victims of the Zhytomyr Shelling
The ruling bishop of the Zhytomyr Diocese extended condolences to the families of the police officers killed and those injured following the Russian attack.
Metropolitan Nikodim of Zhytomyr and Novograd-Volynsky expressed condolences to the relatives of those killed as a result of the Russian attack on Zhytomyr on August 19, 2026. The hierarch announced this on his Facebook page.
Metropolitan Nikodim noted that as of the morning of August 20, three police officers were confirmed dead and more than 50 people were injured. "With deep pain and sorrow in our hearts, we express our sincere condolences to the relatives and loved ones of the innocently slain, who perished during the tragic shelling. They are those who gave their lives fulfilling their duty and protecting civilians," reads the condolence statement of the UOC hierarch.
The address also contains an assurance of prayer for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for the consolation of their families. "We pray to the Merciful God that He receive the souls of the departed into His Heavenly dwellings and grant them eternal rest," the archpastor emphasized.
His Grace Nikodim also called on the faithful to intensify their prayers for peace and the end of the war, and to pray for the speedy recovery of all those injured.
