His Beatitude led the celebrations for the 510th anniversary of the Lavra skete in Horodok

In the Rivne Diocese, the Primate of the UOC consecrated an image of the Mother of God restored by the sisters.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy on the feast day of the Prophet Elijah celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Horodok St. Nicholas Convent on the occasion of the 510th anniversary of the first mention of monastic life at the site of the present-day monastery. This was reported by the Information and Educational Department of the UOC.

The celebrations are connected with a historic date — in 1516, Prince Kostiantyn Ostrozky confirmed by charter the property rights over Horodok to the Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery. During that period, a Lavra skete was established on the island.

The Primate was co-served by Metropolitan Serhiy of Ternopil and Kremenets, Metropolitan Klyment of Nizhyn and Pryluky, Metropolitan Nikodym of Zhytomyr and Novograd-Volynsky, Metropolitan Nafanail of Volyn and Lutsk, Metropolitan Pymen of Rivne and Ostroh, Archbishop Guriy (Kuzmenko), Archbishop Veniamin of Khotyn, Archbishop Spyrydon of Dobropillia, Archbishop Mark of Borodianka, as well as the clergy of the monastery and guests in holy orders.

During the Liturgy, prayers were offered by the abbess of the monastery, Hegumeness Mykhaila (Zaiets), hegumenesses and superiors of other monastic communities of the UOC. The faithful offered fervent prayers for peace in Ukraine, for the people, the authorities, and the armed forces of the country.

During the celebrations, His Beatitude performed the rite of consecration of the Dubno Icon of the Mother of God, the restoration of which was carried out by the sisters of the Horodok Monastery.

The Primate also presented ecclesiastical awards to Hegumeness Mykhaila (Zaiets) and to the superior of the Mezhyrich Holy Trinity Monastery, Hegumen Fedor (Melnychuk). The feast concluded with a well-attended procession of the cross around the monastery.

The celebrations are connected with a historic date — in 1516, Prince Kostiantyn Ostrozky confirmed by charter the property rights over Horodok to the Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery. It was at that time that the Lavra skete was established on the island.

As the SPJ reported, the Primate of the UOC led the celebrations in honor of the Baptism of Rus at the Lavra.
