Kyiv Theological Schools begin enrollment for catechetical courses
The Kyiv Theological Academy has announced enrollment for the St. Peter Mohyla Catechetical Courses for laypeople.
With the blessing of the Rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, Archbishop Sylvester of Bilohorodka, enrollment of students has begun at the theological schools for the St. Peter Mohyla Orthodox Catechetical Courses, reports the press service of the KDAiS.
The courses are designed to help believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church deepen their knowledge of Orthodox doctrine and prepare for teaching in Sunday schools.
Applicants are offered two in-person programs in Kyiv: the Catechetical Department, with a three-year course of study, and the Department of Liturgical Typikon and Reading, with a two-year duration. For those unable to attend in person, distance learning has been organized via the Zoom platform on Sundays during the daytime or twice a week in the evening.
Enrollment is also open for children aged 7–16 in a liturgical choral singing program, which combines instruction in the basics of church chant with practical participation in worship. The courses are taught by theology graduates, professors of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, and experienced instructors. Graduates receive a formal certificate signed by the academy’s rector upon completion.
Students may also take optional courses in New Testament Greek, Latin, and Church Slavonic.
To apply, candidates must submit a questionnaire with a recommendation from a parish priest, a copy of their passport, and, if available, a copy of a certificate of completion of Orthodox courses.
Detailed information about enrollment can be obtained from the head of the courses, Bishop Filaret (Voloshyn), and the assistant head, Archimandrite Raphael (Mosunov), as well as on the official website of the KDAiS.
As the UOJ previously reported, the Kyiv Theological Schools had earlier begun accepting documents for the new academic year. Entrance examinations will be held from August 3 to 6.
