Phanar hierarchs attend Bastille Day reception in Istanbul

Patriarch Bartholomew and Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon attended a Bastille Day reception at the French Consulate General in Istanbul, Fos Fanariou reports.
On behalf of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the hierarchs congratulated the French ambassador to Türkiye and the consul general on the country’s national holiday.
Metropolitan Emmanuel of Chalcedon attended the event wearing a secular business suit.
During the Reign of Terror that followed the French Revolution, the authorities launched a campaign to dechristianize society. Churches were closed en masse across the country, church bells were melted down to make cannons, and clergy were persecuted.
Christianity was aggressively replaced with artificial pagan cults – the “Cult of Reason” and the “Cult of the Supreme Being.” In an effort to eradicate the very memory of God, the revolutionaries even abolished the Christian calendar and Sundays, replacing them with a new “progressive” revolutionary calendar.
As the UOJ previously reported, Patriarch Bartholomew blessed the establishment of an institute for ethics and artificial intelligence in Greece.
