Belgian Teacher Threatened for Converting from Islam to Christianity
Moroccan theologian Ahmed Etrib converted to Catholicism and spoke about the threats he has been receiving after publishing a video about his faith.
Belgian teacher Ahmed Etrib has reported receiving threats following his conversion from Islam to Catholicism. This was reported by the C4U organization.
Ahmed Etrib, a Moroccan by origin and a theology teacher in the city of Charleroi, became a Catholic in 2018. According to him, after his baptism his family cut off contact with him, and recently the situation has escalated: students found his TikTok profile, where he shared testimonies of faith, after which threats began to arrive. The teacher himself admitted that he fears for his life, recalling the murder of French teacher Samuel Paty, who was beheaded by an Islamist in 2020.
Etrib said that his story was included in the June report of the Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination against Christians in Europe (OIDAC Europe). The organization reported 40 registered attacks and cases of persecution of Christians for their faith in just the past month. Its analysts note that threats often come from radical Muslims, and attacks are frequently connected to the issue of apostasy from Islam.
As the SPJ reported, Britain is to establish a council against antisemitism and Islamophobia
