On Rivne Region, a UOC priest was awarded an order for his son who died in the war
Archpriest Alexander Maksimyuk received a state award posthumously granted to his warrior son who saved his brother-in-arms.
The Dean of the Ostroh Deanery of the Rivne Eparchy of the UOC Archpriest Alexander Maksimyuk received the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytsky III degree on June 8, 2026, which was posthumously awarded to his son Alexander. This is reported by the eparchial press service.
The state award to warrior Alexander Maksimyuk was presented at the Rivne District State Administration. The priest's son voluntarily joined the ranks of defenders before reaching 20 years of age and served in the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade. He died while pulling his brother-in-arms from a vehicle that came under enemy fire.
At the award ceremony, the warrior's father said that no award would bring back his son and it would have been much better if Alexander were alive and had received it himself.
Relatives, friends and the eparchial secretary Archpriest Viktor Zemlyanoy came to support the archpriest.
As SPJ reported, an alley in honor of fallen warriors was consecrated in the Kharkiv Eparchy. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church provides spiritual and humanitarian support to defenders and their families throughout the entire period of hostilities.
