In the USA, support for LGBT has significantly decreased – poll
Gallup recorded a decline in approval among Americans for same-sex marriages and gender transition.
In the USA, support for same-sex marriage and gender transition is declining, and the share of those who perceive homosexual relationships as morally acceptable is also falling. These conclusions follow from an analysis of the results of the annual Gallup poll in 2026.
According to the study, the share of Americans supporting same-sex marriage fell to 64% – the lowest since 2019. The indicator of moral acceptability of homosexual relationships decreased to 62%, which became the lowest level in a decade of observations. Approval of gender transition practices dropped to 38% compared to 46% in 2021. The report notes that the trend reflects more restrained positions of respondents on issues of family and sexual morality.
Experts primarily link the dynamics to the position of conservatively-minded citizens: among supporters of the Republican Party, support for gender transition fell to 5% compared to 42% of independent voters and 60% of Democrats. When Gallup first asked this question in 2021, the indicators were 22%, 48%, and 67% respectively. That is, a decline over 5 years of -17% among conservatives, -8% among centrists, -7% among liberals.
Against this background, researchers record a persistent divergence of assessments between political groups, which affects public discussions and legislative initiatives at the state level.
As SPJ reported, Trump announced the "Save America Act" with measures on gender and LGBT.
