Supreme Court rejects UOC bishop’s appeal over Kremenchuk Trinity Cathedral
The cassation instance within the Supreme Court upheld the decision transferring the church to the OCU structure.
On May 19, 2026, the Commercial Cassation Court within the Supreme Court refused to satisfy the appeal filed by UOC representatives regarding Holy Trinity Church in Kremenchuk, the Kremenchuk Telegraph reports.
Following this court decision, the cathedral was finally transferred to the religious community of the OCU. Metropolitan Nikolay of Kremenchuk and Lubny, Kapustin, had challenged the legality of the community’s transfer in court and sought to overturn the rulings of the lower courts.
Earlier, on December 9, 2025, the Eastern Commercial Court of Appeal also rejected the UOC hierarch’s appeal. The judges effectively upheld the ruling of the Commercial Court of Poltava Region and ignored the defense’s arguments about gross violations during the re-registration. UOC representatives said the community’s transfer took place without the consent of the majority of parishioners and amid administrative pressure from city authorities.
As the UOJ reported, UOC faithful defended Holy Trinity Church from attempts by the OCU to seize it. The conflict around Holy Trinity Church in the city had long unfolded in both the legal and public spheres, while the final cassation ruling consolidated the line already taken by previous courts.
