UOC delegation takes part in official reception hosted by Georgian president
Representatives of the Local Churches discussed with the head of state the role of Orthodox values in overcoming global crises.
An official meeting between Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili and guests who had arrived in the country for the celebrations marking the enthronement of Catholicos-Patriarch Shio III of All Georgia was held at the presidential palace in Georgia. This was reported by UOJ in Georgia.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church was represented at the event by Metropolitan Sergiy of Ternopil and Kremenets. Also taking part in the reception were Metropolitan Rastislav, Primate of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, and representatives of the Alexandrian, Russian, Serbian, Bulgarian, Greek, Albanian, and Polish Local Churches.
During the conversation, the parties paid particular attention to the role of Orthodox values in the modern world. The participants emphasized that amid global challenges, the role of the Orthodox Churches in preserving peace, humanism, and traditional spiritual values is acquiring special importance.
The President of Georgia expressed gratitude to the representatives of the Local Churches for their sincere condolences and support following the repose of Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II of All Georgia.
As the UOJ reported, the Romanian Patriarch spoke at the inauguration of the country’s new president. The participation of church delegations in state ceremonies in Orthodox countries remains an established practice and serves as a platform for inter-church dialogue and the reaffirmation of contacts among the Local Churches.
