ROCOR hierarchs gathered at a monastery near Munich to take part in the Council and celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the German Eparchy.

On April 29, 2026, the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia opened in Munich, UOJ Germany reported.

The hierarchs gathered at the Convent of St. Elizabeth the New Martyr in Buchendorf, a suburb of Munich. Photographs from the venue were provided by the ROCOR German Eparchy.

The Council is being held as part of celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the German Eparchy of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. During the sessions, the hierarchs are discussing current issues of church life and taking part in divine services and jubilee events.

The venue chosen for the Council is a women’s monastery founded in 2005 and dedicated to Holy Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna. It is the only Russian Orthodox convent in Germany, giving the Council a special symbolic significance.

Taking part in the Council are ROCOR First Hierarch Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York, Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and Germany, Bishop Job of Stuttgart, Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, as well as other hierarchs, clergy, and guests.

The events are part of a broader jubilee program that includes divine services and discussions of key issues in church life.

As previously reported by the UOJ, Ukrainians and Russians celebrated Pascha together at a ROCOR church in Copenhagen.
