Most Britons oppose abortions, poll finds
The survey found that 62% of UK residents support legal protection for unborn children from the moment their heartbeat is first detected.
On March 9, 2026, the organization CBR UK published on its website the results of a survey on British attitudes toward abortion. The polling was conducted on the streets of 13 cities across the country.
In the first survey, 62% of 1,546 respondents answered “yes” when asked whether a child’s life should be protected once a heartbeat can already be heard. A second poll found that 59% of Britons do not support a law allowing unborn children to be killed once their hearts have begun to function.
CBR UK representatives noted that a baby’s heart beats for the first time on the 22nd day of development. At the same time, more than 250,000 unborn children are aborted in the UK each year. Supporters of the pro-life cause are currently collecting signatures for a petition calling for the adoption of a “Heartbeat Bill” on the UK Parliament website.
