Frankfurt will be decorated for Ramadan – city officials describe the initiative as a sign of openness, diversity, and solidarity with the Muslim community.

On February 17, 2026, it has become known that the Frankfurt municipality has again allocated around 100,000 euros for festive decorations in the city center to mark the beginning of Ramadan. This was reported by the German outlet JF-Online.

For the third time, decorative lighting will be installed in central Frankfurt – crescents, stars, and the message “Happy Ramadan.”

Frankfurt became the first city in Germany to introduce this practice in 2024 after a decision by the city council. The project was supported by representatives of the Greens, the SPD, the FDP, and Volt. According to the outlet, 75,000 euros were spent on purchasing the illumination, while the overall decoration budget reached 100,000 euros.

City authorities describe the initiative as a sign of openness and solidarity. Mayor and Commissioner for Diversity Nargess Eskandari-Grünberg said the lighting underscores that Muslim life is an integral part of Frankfurt and serves as a signal against populism and anti-democratic tendencies.

At the same time, the project has drawn criticism from a number of political forces that consider such budget spending controversial. Previously, representatives of the CDU, the Left Party, and Alternative for Germany spoke out against the initiative.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that a congressional caucus titled “America Without Sharia” was created in the United States.
