U.S. Secretary of State Rubio: Christian faith is the foundation of America

In his remarks, Rubio stressed that the West is not merely a political alliance, but a civilizational community united by a common history, culture, and religious heritage, calling the U.S. a "child of Europe."
"We care deeply about your future and ours. And if at times we disagree, our disagreements come from our profound sense of concern about a Europe with which we are connected, not just economically, not just militarily. We are connected spiritually and we are connected culturally," he said.
Speaking about the origins of the United States, he noted that the country’s founders brought to the New World “the traditions and Christian faith of their ancestors,” calling this link a “sacred heritage” and a spiritual continuity between Europe and America. As symbols of this shared past, he mentioned the Sistine Chapel and Cologne Cathedral.
The speech drew mixed reactions in the European media. Some commentators viewed it as an ideological statement in the spirit of the slogan “Make America Great Again,” while others emphasized that the reminder of a common historical and spiritual heritage reflects the centuries-long bond between the Old World and the New.
Earlier, transatlantic relations had been discussed amid political disagreements, but in his remarks Rubio placed the emphasis on cultural and spiritual continuity, which, he said, goes beyond the scope of current geopolitical disputes.
