Patriarch Porfirije: “Gender Revolution” destroys the human person
The Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church said that the spread of gender ideology harms the family first of all – and as the family is weakened, the very substance of the human person is eroded.
On February 10, 2026, in Belgrade, a presentation of Dr. Marguerite Peeters’ book “The Gender Revolution – A Global Agenda?” was held in the crypt of the Church of St. Sava. During the event, an address by Patriarch Porfirije, Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church, was read out. This was reported by UOJ in Serbia.
Patriarch Porfirije was unable to attend the event in person, and his greeting was delivered by Bishop Ilarion of Novo Brdo. In the address, the Primate of the Serbian Orthodox Church spoke in detail about gender ideology and its impact on contemporary society.
“With the advent of the ‘gender revolution,’ the very understanding of the human person and his place in the world has been shaken. And thus his eschatological calling has been cast into doubt,” Patriarch Porfirije emphasized. He noted that “the human body, sex, and the relationships that arise from them are not accidental, temporary, or interchangeable, but are deeply rooted in God’s providence for the world.”
According to Patriarch Porfirije, the spread of this ideology “first and foremost harms the family,” and as the family is weakened, “the very essence of the human person is destroyed.” In conclusion, he stated: “Gender ideology does not correspond to the proven and well-grounded positions of Serbian linguistic scholarship,” adding that the Church “carefully safeguards language and the truth about the human person.”
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Patriarch Porfirije supported Serbian students and schoolchildren in Croatia.
