MP agrees with OCU on destruction of royal family fresco in Volodymyr cathedral
Despite the fact that the Dormition Cathedral in Volodymyr was built with funds provided by Nicholas II, the OCU will destroy the fresco depicting the Royal Passion-Bearers.
A fresco depicting the Royal Passion-Bearers in the Dormition Cathedral of Volodymyr, seizured from the UOC, will be dismantled. In its place, "Ukrainian saints" will appear, reports MP Ihor Huz.
According to him, this is not about a separate icon, but about a large-scale wall painting that appeared in the temple during the time when the cathedral was in use by the UOC.
Huz assures that the destruction of the fresco is a matter of national security, since "it is precisely on such grounds that Russian special services easily recruit agents."
According to Huz, the question of the fresco's further fate has already been discussed with the OCU leadership. He reported that he received a response from the local "bishop" Matfii that this mural will not remain in the Dormition Cathedral. At the same time, he assured that the dismantling process will occur in compliance with all legal procedures.
The MP reported that they plan to place "images of Ukrainian saints that will not have any imperial or political coloring" in place of the destroyed fresco.
At the same time, Tsar Nicholas II is actually the ktitor of the Dormition Cathedral, since the temple was rebuilt from ruins with his funds. Nicholas II allocated about 60,000 rubles for the cathedral's revival, and then additionally announced a collection in all temples of the Russian Empire. As a result, 127,550 rubles were collected, and by 1900 the Dormition Cathedral was rebuilt by Russian architects in its current magnificent form.
