The Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office insists on registering state ownership of the UOC church in the village of Myzynivka, claiming the need for "legal protection" of the monument.

On January 23, 2026, the Prosecutor's Office of the Cherkasy region announced the initiation of judicial procedures related to the registration of state ownership rights to the 18th-century St. George Church in the village of Myzynivka, as reported on the official Telegram channel of the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The agency’s statement clarifies that this concerns the wooden St. George’s Church built in 1785, which is a locally designated architectural monument and is under the administration of the local St. George’s religious community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Prosecutor’s Office stated that in the Zvenyhorodka district, it was established that there is no formal state ownership right over the property.

According to the supervisory authority, as a result, the church “remained without proper legal protection for a long time” and was allegedly “under threat of destruction.” In this regard, the Zvenyhorodka District Prosecutor’s Office filed a lawsuit demanding measures to register the state ownership right. Court proceedings have been initiated in the case.

At the same time, according to information from open sources, the St. George religious community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is active and has not been removed from state registration. The church is used for its intended purpose and, according to media reports, is maintained in proper condition by the efforts of the community itself.

Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the Dormition Cathedral in Volodymyr, taken away from the UOC, was transferred from UOC to OCU control.
