In Volyn, UOC priest mobilized from inpatient department
Despite his limited fitness status, Archpriest Vitaly Chaban was taken to a training ground in the Lviv region after the military medical commission.
In Volyn, a cleric of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Archpriest Vitaly Chaban, was mobilized during his inpatient treatment. As reported by the press service of the Volodymyr-Volynskyi Eparchy , the priest has an official status of limited fitness for military service due to health conditions (Article 61b).
Father Vitaly is the rector of the Intercession Church in the village of Torhovyshche, and also serves parishes in the villages of Cherniiv and Perevaly of the Turiisk Deanery of the Volodymyr-Volynskyi Eparchy of the UOC.
On January 23, 2026, while undergoing treatment, the priest received a summons to clarify registration data and arrived at the Turiisk TRC and SP. From there he was immediately taken to Lutsk to undergo a military medical commission. The MMC confirmed the previously established diagnosis and limited fitness status. Despite this, after completing the medical examination, Father Vitaly was taken away in an unknown direction.
It later became known that the priest was being transported to a military training ground in Starychi, Lviv region.
The eparchy notes that throughout the entire period of full-scale hostilities, Father Vitaly was actively engaged in volunteer activities, providing assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and affected civilians in the eastern regions of the country.
The faithful are asked to intensify prayers for Archpriest Vitaly Chaban, whose health condition causes serious concern.
As the UOJ wrote, earlier a UOC hierarch urged the SBU to stop violence against Volyn clergy.
