State Film Agency bans Ukrainian film "Prayer for Hetman Mazepa"
The film by renowned director Yuriy Illienko about Mazepa was banned due to the participation of an actor from the Russian Federation.
In Ukraine, the film "Prayer for Hetman Mazepa. New Version" by the well-known Ukrainian director Yuriy Illienko, shot in 2010, has been banned. This was reported by the State Film Agency to the «Interfax».
The justification for this unusual decision stated that the Russian actor Nikita Dzhigurda starred in the film. Because of this, the film posed a threat to Ukraine's national security.
"From January 1 to December 31, 2025, 2040 film titles (including TV series) were added to the State Film Register. During this period, 7 films were banned from distribution and screening in Ukraine," stated in the response from the State Film Agency. The film about Mazepa was included in this list.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Lavrska Street lost its name as Kyiv honors Mazepa in a derussification push.
