Cherkasy court postpons hearing in Metropolitan Theodosiy case over illness
The court postponed the hearing due to the health condition of the archbishop, who remains under treatment; the issue of preventive measures will be considered on December 26.
On December 18, 2025, the Sosnivsky District Court of Cherkasy postponed the court hearing in the case of Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv, where it was planned to extend or change the preventive measure. The reason for the postponement was the health condition of the archbishop, reports "Suspilne".
As announced during the session, the metropolitan's defender, Volodymyr Yudin, sent a petition to the court requesting to postpone the hearing due to the fact that the bishop continues to undergo treatment in a medical facility. As a result, Metropolitan Theodosiy and his lawyers were unable to attend the court.
At the same time, prosecutor Vadym Kolomiets filed a petition to extend the preventive measure in the form of a personal obligation, which expires on December 30. The court refused to consider it, stating that in the absence of the accused, such issues cannot be addressed. It is noted that on November 28, 2025, Metropolitan Theodosiy was urgently hospitalized in critical condition and has since remained in the hospital.
According to earlier information, doctors managed to significantly reduce the indicators of inflammatory damage to internal organs, but they still remain several times higher than the permissible norm. The bishop is undergoing intensive therapy and is under round-the-clock supervision by specialists.
The prosecutor also stated the need for a monetary penalty, citing the absence of presented medical documents. However, the judge noted that the application of such measures at this stage is premature. As a result, the case hearing was postponed, and the next court session is scheduled for December 26.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Cherkasy Eparchy reported an improvement in Metropolitan Theodosiy's condition.
