In Montenegro, Croatian fans chanted: “Whoever isn’t jumping Is Orthodox”
Croatian football supporters chanted: “Kill the Serb.”
On 17 November 2025, at the stadium in Podgorica (Montenegro), during the World Cup 2026 qualifier between Montenegro and Croatia, a scandal broke out involving Croatian fans who shouted anti-Serb and anti-Orthodox slogans.
Around 550 Croatian supporters at the Pod Goricom stadium in Podgorica first chanted the pro-Ustaše slogan “Za dom spremni” (“For the homeland – be ready”), and then escalated to openly provocative chants of “Ubij Srbina” (“Kill the Serb”).
After this, the Croatian fans began chanting “Ko ne skače pravoslavac” (“Whoever isn’t jumping is Orthodox”), prompting the stadium announcer to call on the crowd to behave respectfully and fairly.
Some Montenegrin supporters responded to the provocations with whistles, while another part of the audience remained silent, not reacting to what was happening.
Montenegro’s Minister of Sports and Youth, Dragoslav Šćekić, called such behavior unacceptable and strongly condemned the “obscene, offensive and, above all, fascist chanting.” According to him, openly fascist slogans are in complete contradiction with the values that sport is supposed to promote.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that, according to the head of the Institute of National Memory, Oleksandr Alferov, the cultured Germans of the Hitler era cannot be compared with Russians.
