In Congo, Islamists kill 20 Christians in an attack on a Catholic clinic
Among the victims were nursing mothers found with their throats slit, and the clinic along with nearby houses was completely burned down.
On 14 November 2025, in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) attacked a Catholic medical facility, killing around 20 people. The incident was reported by Christian Today.
According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists stormed into the maternity ward and patient rooms and brutally murdered those inside. Among the victims were nursing mothers – several women were found on hospital beds with their throats slit. The attackers set the clinic on fire, including the maternity unit, and burned dozens of houses surrounding the medical center.
Italian missionary Father Giovanni Piumatti stated: “Fifteen people were killed in the clinic and another five in the surrounding area.” He added: “They set fire to the entire facility and twenty-seven nearby homes. Before destroying everything, they looted all the medical supplies – I believe that was their main objective. Panic spread everywhere.”
According to the missionary, the Islamists were better armed than local military forces and quickly disappeared into the forest. There are fears that some women with newborns may have died in the fire.
The destroyed clinic was the only accessible medical facility for local residents. The Sisters of the Presentation provided maternal care, general medicine, and basic surgery for communities otherwise isolated from medical support. Catholic nuns who had been operating the center are now treating survivors outdoors while awaiting a security assessment.
Missionaries emphasize that such attacks occur almost weekly but go unreported by the international community. They call on global leaders to pay attention to the crisis, as peaceful Christians – women, children and the elderly – are suffering the heaviest losses from the ongoing violence.
