EU to create information control agency against "disinformation"
The new body will be empowered to monitor online content and coordinate the actions of EU states in the "fight against disinformation".
On November 12, 2025, the European Commission presented a package of initiatives called the "European Democracy Shield", which includes the creation of a new agency to control information, reports The European Conservative.
The package includes measures aimed at "protecting the information space", "strengthening democratic institutions", and "enhancing social resilience", stated EU Commissioner Michael McGrath and Vice President Henna Virkunnen. According to them, the initiative aims to ensure a response to attempts to manipulate public opinion in EU countries.
A key element will be the creation of the European Centre for Democratic Resilience. According to the European Commission, the center will be engaged in identifying and analyzing attempts to spread disinformation, as well as developing recommendations for member states. The new body will have the authority to track online content and coordinate the actions of EU states in the "fight against disinformation".
A separate direction will be working with major digital platforms – Meta, X, and TikTok – within the framework of existing EU digital services laws and artificial intelligence.
Platforms will be required to label content created using AI, including deepfakes, especially during election periods.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that the European Parliament committee called for the inclusion of abortions in health policy.
